Journal

Observations, reflections & occasional dispatches from a life in progress.

This journal is a record of things observed, considered and, in time, judged worthy of keeping — reflections on service and leadership, fellowship and tradition, travel, resilience, character, and the quieter lessons revealed in the ordinary course of a life.

Some entries are written with distance and deliberation; others closer to the moment in which they were lived. Together, they form an evolving commonplace book: not a complete account, nor an attempt to provide one, but a record of those experiences, convictions and observations that have left their mark.

There is value, I believe, in setting such things down. Memory is imperfect, time alters perspective, and much that once seemed ordinary acquires greater meaning in retrospect. These pages are therefore both record and reflection — a place to preserve what was learned, what mattered, and occasionally, what ought not to be forgotten.

A Note From The Author

These pages are personal rather than prescriptive. They reflect my own experiences, observations and conclusions at the time they were written. Others may see the same matters differently, and that is entirely as it should be.

I have not attempted to make every entry uniform in tone or certainty. Some thoughts have been tested by time; others belong more closely to the moment in which they were formed. I have chosen to preserve that distinction. A journal should not merely record where a man arrived, but something of the road by which he came there.
