Correspondence

I have always held a particular regard for thoughtful correspondence — for the considered exchange of ideas, the discovery of a shared interest, and the simple civility of taking the time to write well.

The Gentleman’s Bastion was never intended merely as a place from which to speak, but also as one in which conversation might begin. Whether prompted by something found within these pages, by a matter of mutual interest, or simply by the wish to continue an exchange, considered correspondence is always received with pleasure.

Good correspondence asks for little more than attention, courtesy, and a willingness to engage in good faith — qualities which remain as valuable now as they ever were.

“A letter is in fact the only device for combining solitude and good company.”
— Jacques Barzun

The Written Word

There remains something particular about a considered note, written with purpose and received in kind. Whether prompted by a shared interest, a question, or simply the wish to continue a conversation begun elsewhere, thoughtful correspondence is always welcome.
